Local Initiatives
De Boomgaard Foundation was established on May 12, 2005 as a private grant-giving foundation.
The founders are two philanthropists who wish to support youth and children, initiatives to advance climate justice and local heritage and innovations. The foundation is partnering with ambitious charities or non-for profit organisations. It was ranked as public benefit organisation (ANBI) and can make and receive tax-free donations.
Landgoed (estate) Heidenheim is an old estate with probable origins around 1650. It consists of old avenues, visual axes, a mirror pond with a motte, which used to be a spiral path with a cave and a hermit's hut.
With the grant of Stichting de Boomgaard and other contributors, restoration of the windmill took place, in order to entrust it to a professional miller, and educate children and adults.

The Cottage Family Centre distributes surplus goods from industries and the Amazon's warehouse in the UK. Essential goods are distributed to deserving families via local charities, schools and professionals.
The National Innovation Centre in Nepal invented and built the Nyano Nani. An affordable, effective and locally built baby warmer that provides essential warmth to hypothermic newborn babies. The staff worked closely with, among others, students at TU Delft. The contribution is aimed at reducing the production price.
The cultural history museum portrays, preserves and manages the history of Huizen, including a fine costume collection. The contribution enables the museum to hire a professional fundraiser.
House of Animals tracks down and exposes abuses of animals and brings animal welfare regularly to people's attention
Child Welfare South Africa is a public benefit organization, dedicated to protecting and nurturing children within their family units in 22 rural areas. In the Ugu District in KwaZulu Natal. Child Welfare has expanded her staff with some permanent community and administrative workers with funds provided by Stichting de Boomgaard.
In Afghanistan girls access to education is extremely restricted by the Taliban. Despite all exclusions Learn Afghan provides adolescent girls with skills and knowledge to study further, fostering their personal growth, leadership and communities development. Foundation De Boomgaard supports girls studying in Kandahar, Bamyan and Helmand provinces.
The CSD Foundation focuses on improving the living conditions of people in Cape Verde through 'local entrepreneurship', 'education', and 'sustainable tourism'. With the project Sinti bo Felisidadi, a photo competition and exhibition, the foundation contributes to the preservation of art and culture on the island of Sal, and provides income for young ambitious photographers.
The THINK NOW project focusses on showing the importance of giving school children and students ‘a voice’ in the climate debate. It seeks to increase public support for sustainability education. Foundation De Boomgaard supports THINK NOW with funds for an impactful documentary, that will be (inter)nationally distributed via television, filmfestivals and social media.
The Cornerstone Foundation helps vulnerable school leavers in Rwanda with vocational training and thus to gain a solid foundation for life. It is the Great Lakes Hospitality Institute which trains young people to become professionals in the hotel and restaurant industry by teaching them the essential basic skills.
Stichting Rhiza, or Rhiza Babuyile, active in South Africa aims at self-sustainable health care in townships by innovative Nursepreneur clinics. Nurse-led mobile clinics provide communities with access to quality primary healthcare. Foundation De Boomgaard has funded a Nursepreneur clinic in Soshanguve, a township near Pretoria, where 1 million people live in poverty.
Tergooi MC has recently completed the greenest hospital in the Netherlands for the region ‘Gooi- en Vechstreek’. Tergooi MC wants to bring nature to and into the hospital. Foundation De Boomgaard shares the view that a ‘green hospital’ immensely contributes to healing processes and has funded one of the 6 patio gardens. Fruit trees have been included.
The island of Pampus is part of the 19th century waterline defense of Amsterdam. In 1996 it became a UNESCO world heritage site. The Fort Island Pampus Foundation, responsible for preserving the heritage, is developing Pampus into a fully climate neutral and educational island. Foundation De Boomgaard helped in funding a hypermodern renewable energy system and a sustainable built classroom.
We fund continuation of healthcare in Al Bab city, Swaiha region, and mobile medical posts in refugee camps in Aleppo province in Syria.
The National Witch Monument Foundation wants to create a physical monument in memory of those who have been persecuted, tortured, convicted and put to death as witches on the territory of The Netherlands.
Partners for Girls founded a leadership centre for girls in Butula in Busia County and provides job preparation and coaching. Foundation De Boomgaard helped kickstart this centre and funded sanitary facilities.
SHE Changes Climate empowers women leaders to strengthen women groups and networks in their countries to connect, share and build resilience and to lead local and global climate action. The funding supports ambassadors at COP29 in Azerbaijan and strengthens the networks.
Training of trauma specialists is undertaken to support traumatized victims of conflict and internal violence.
The Orphans Feeding Foundation takes part in the “Bring Kids Back UA” programme, were children deported from Ukraine to Russia are traced and taken back home.
Network New Rotterdam helps young vulnerable people who struggle with loneliness mental health issues or simply finding their space in the city. Participants gain self-awareness and solidarity by volunteering in their quest for connecting all layers of the Rotterdam society.
Human Nature Films is researching the production of a fiction documentary that portrays the intriguing story of Suriname's least known inhabitants, the Tarëno tribe. De Boomgaard funded the research trip for this movie.
