In Afghanistan girls access to education is extremely restricted by the Taliban. Despite all exclusions Learn Afghan provides girls with skills and knowledge to study further, fostering their personal growth, leadership and communities development.

Educating Girls in Afghanistan Against All Odds

In Afghanistan, girls’ access to education remains severely restricted under the ongoing national ban on female education. Despite these barriers, Learn Afghan continues to offer safe, high-quality education to many girls across Bamyan, Helmand, and Kandahar, and is expanding its reach further.

In 2025, Learn Afghan aims to provide education to 700 students across six provinces, combining in-person and online learning, navigating physical, political, and social obstacles. The curriculum focuses on science, mathematics, and English, following international standards to prepare girls for further education, including applications to global universities.

The need is obvious. According to the World Bank, only 37% of Afghan teenage girls can read and write - compared to 66% of boys. Even in the most optimistic scenarios, fewer than half of all girls in Afghanistan have access to formal schooling.

The LEARN Healthcare programme also distributes menstrual products and provides food packages. Its LEARN Emergency Aid initiative responds to crises like earthquakes, floods, and deteriorating conditions in refugee camps - delivering essentials such as food, blankets, and hygiene supplies.

In an uncertain environment Learn Afghan continues to fight for a future where Afghan girls can learn, grow, and lead.
