Healthcare centers and mobile medical posts in Syria – EUR 20.000 (28 May 2024)

Since 2012 Humanitaire Hulp Syrië Netherlands and a local partner organisation alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing war in Syria. During the past 10 years millions of people have fled, and most infrastructure, schools and health centres were destroyed. In 2018 doctors, nurses and home care providers joined forces to set up a neighbourhood health in Al Bab city with Ambulances without Borders. This centre helps over 30,000 residents and refugees. Sewing lessons help women to generate their own income.

The village of Swaiha in northwest of Syria faces a major shortage of quality care. Roads are abysmal, making the journey difficult for patients. Women give birth on the way. Only when you have complications or enough money there is the alternative of a remote overcrowded hospital. In 2020 a village house for shelter and education for women and children was established. It runs transport to a city hospital in the city or Turkey if necessary. A dental practice was added in 2022. Both centres in Al Bab and Swaiha now have a midwifery practice with an expert gynaecologist.

Shortly after the severe earthquake of February 2023, three mobile medical posts started to help refugees in hastily set up camps. De Boomgaard supports the continuity of the daily efforts of the two centres and the mobile medical post in 2024.
