The National Innovation Centre in Nepal invented and built the Nyano Nani. An affordable, effective and locally built baby warmer that provides essential warmth to hypothermic newborn babies. The staff worked closely with, among others, students at TU Delft. The contribution is aimed at reducing the production price.

Baby warmer Nyano Nani

Hypothermia, a medical condition where a newborn loses its body heat rapidly is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality in Nepal. Affordable and qualitative products are scarcely available.

In order to provide the necessary thermal protection to prevent hypothermia, medical facilities in Nepal are forced to work with filament bulbs, burn coal, use frail warmers or to rely on donated equipment difficult to maintain due to lack of service. This project aims not only to lower the production price, but also to integrate specs and to create a production unit to increase scale.
