The Hoogenboom Scholarship Programme provides fully funded master’s scholarships for women from Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling them to study at the Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Sciences and Technology at Heriot-Watt University. Over five years, a total of 30 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding women ready to address urgent regional and global challenges.

Empowering women, shaping futures 

The Hoogenboom scholarship aligns with Heriot-Watt’s Shaping Futures mission, empowering female leaders to build a just, sustainable, and enriching society. Scholars can choose from master’s programs addressing urgent challenges such as sustainable energy, coastal degradation, biodiversity loss, plastic pollution, sustainable fisheries, and climate resilience. Programs include MSc Global Environmental Change and Policy, MSc Sustainable Geoenergy, MSc Renewable and Sustainable Energy Transition, MSc International Marine Science, MSc Global Sustainability Engineering, and MSc Marine Renewable Energy. 

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a university that is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), ensuring strong academic preparation for tackling pressing environmental challenges.
