Micro finance for groups of women in Arusha - EUR 9,300 (2 December 2024)
In the Arusha area many people live below the poverty line. Women in particular sustain their families by setting up their own businesses. But they barely earn enough to provide for themselves, feed their children and send them to school. Pamoja Nguvu helps them to achieve independence with microcredits.
In total 30 women, divided over 10 groups, receive an initial loan and, if they meet the criteria, a second one. The women form a credit group to repay their debts. They also receive training on accounting, entrepreneurship, women's rights, family planning and dealing with domestic violence. Women are not allowed to have other loans, a criminal record or an addiction. It is important that they clearly explain and motivate the idea for their business and are willing to work in a group.
The stories are remarkable. During the training Witness Albeth came up with the idea of renting the shop opposite her vegetable stall to sell groceries. This way she can compensate the bad times in her vegetable sales she has due to the seasons. From her stall she keeps an eye on her grocery shop and exploits both. Witness’ profits have grown from $15 per week to $40-$50 per week. In the future she also wants to sell fruit juice.
