KLABU builds clubhouses in refugee camps all over the world, where refugees and host communities come together through sport. In these welcoming spaces, play becomes a powerful tool for healing, empowerment, and connection.

KLABU: Building Community Through Sports

KLABU works with refugee and host communities to create welcoming clubhouses where people can connect through sports, wellbeing, education, and entrepreneurship. These spaces offer relief, pride, and a sense of belonging for those rebuilding their lives.

KLABU funds its mission by designing and selling sportswear. Used items are washed and repaired in the clubhouses, creating local jobs and strengthening community ownership.

Since 2019, KLABU has grown from Kalobeyei, Kenya to Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh), Lesvos (Greece), Amsterdam and Ter Apel (Netherlands), and most recently Boa Vista, Brazil. With support from Stichting de Boomgaard in 2024, the Boa Vista Spirit project became the first of its kind inside a shelter for Venezuelan refugees.

Stichting de Boomgaard supports KLABU because we believe in building positive communities and in the powerful role sport can play in bringing people together, fostering resilience, and creating opportunity.
