Fossielvrij is a citizens' movement taking action for the end of the fossil era and the beginning of a climate-just world focusing on financial institutions.

Funding a campaign against ABP pension fund

Fossielvrij NL conducts campaigns targeting financial institutions that support the fossil fuel industry. Dutch companies that do not have Paris aligned action plans are the main target audience. When a specific target is chosen, the impact is the biggest. Foundation De Boomgaard funded a campaign that led ABP pension fund to divest from fossil fuel companies. The major win with this fund took 7 years to get there. A new landmark campaign aims at the ING bank and has started succesfully now.

Support for a campaign against ING, investor in fossil fuel

Fossielvrij NL has chosen ING for its next landmark campaign. The bank is a major financial player worldwide, the biggest Dutch investor in fossil fuel companies and a cornerstone of Dutch identity. The bank has introduced some interesting climate related policies in the last years, but unfortunately the practical implications of these are so tiny, that they do not do much for carbon reduction and are just there to create an undeserved green image.

The campaign objectives are to create awareness with individuals and organisations banking currently with ING. Hopefully by december 2023, ING will have announced a tightened exclusion policy for oil and gas. And in 2024, that it is going much faster to a net zero economy.
