The Ellen MacArthur Foundation was founded by former solo sailor Dame Ellen MacArthur. Its mission is to accelerate the transition to a regenerative, circular economy. We fund the production of 2 short films on plastics, as well as consultation input for a third documentary, and for promotion off all these.

Two films on plastics and input for a documentary

The circular economy is a production and consumption model that ensures materials and products last as long as possible via sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling. In the current linear economy, materials flow one way. We take resources from the ground, make products, and then they are discarded and end up as landfill or pollution in the environment.

‘Solutions media': films and documentaries for TV, educational institutions and film festivals feed their campaigns. During eight years of the plastics programme, the Foundation’s campaigns, such as the “more plastics than fish in the sea” animation narrated by Sir David Attenborough have lifted the arrival of the circular economy among key changemakers. Their flagship podcast, the Circular Economy Show ranks the top 5% of global podcasts.
